Auditions are being accepted now!

Below are the guidelines to digitally audition for RHSMTA. Auditions for the 2017-2018 are by digital submission only. Information on submitting digital materials in consideration for the RHSMTA ensemble are listed below. For questions about auditioning for RHSMTA please contact us at:

Register your information online via the “Audition Registration” link. Type the words “DIGITAL AUDITION” in the final question box if you are auditioning for the first time. Type the words “RETURNING STUDENT” if you have been a member of RHSMTA before. You may do this step immediately and submit your digital audition materials later. CLICK HERE to register now.

Students will be evaluated in two of the three primary techniques that comprise Musical Theatre – Vocal (singing) and Acting.  A dance assessment will be held on the first day of classes in September. All audition materials should be performed within your capabilities and be thoroughly prepared (memorized) and convincingly delivered.

Vocal Audition – Please prepare 16-32 bars of two (2) contrasting audition songs. Selections should demonstrate your musicianship and technical proficiency as well as your ability to honestly interpret the story your song is telling. Song guidelines are as follows:

  • Two (2) contrasting pieces; one ballad and one uptempo
  • Each selection should be 16-32 bars in length (appox. 1 minute each)
  • Songs should be from published Broadway or Off-Broadway musicals (no pop music, self-written songs, or music from unproduced musicals.)
  • Students must sing to live music or a track. No a cappella singing please.

Acting Audition – Please prepare one age-appropriate monologue from a contemporary (20th or 21st Century) theatrical piece not to exceed one minute in length. Please no Shakespeare, movie monologues, or monologues from a musical. Your piece can be comedic or dramatic.

Film your audition – you may use an ipad or iphone as long as the quality of your audition is preserved in the filming process. Please film each piece (Song #1, Song #2, and Monologue) as three separate videos rather than one continuous stream.

Once the three videos are complete, you may choose to attach them in an email OR upload them to and send us the links. Whichever you choose, please contain all videos and/or links in one email rather than sending them through separately.

Email us at with the following:
– Your three audition submissions or links (Song #1, Song #2, Monologue)
– A current photo or headshot
– A theatrical resume or short list of your theatrical experience

Put your name in the subject line of your email. After submitting your materials, you will receive a confirmation email that your submission is complete. The deadline for submission is Friday, August 25th, 2017.
