RHSMTA Digital Audition Submission

Below are the guidelines to audition for RHSMTA in the Fall 2018 Term. Live auditions will take place Saturday, June 23rd at 12:30pm. After live auditions, digital auditions will be accepted on a need basis only. Information on live auditions in consideration for the RHSMTA ensemble are listed below. STEP #1 – REGISTER
Register your information online via the “Audition Registration” link. Type the words “RETURNING STUDENT” if you have been a member of RHSMTA before. You must be registered to audition. CLICK HERE to register now. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email and time slot. If you do not receive this information, please contact us to ensure we have your registration.
STEP #2 – PREPARE
Students will be evaluated in all three primary techniques that comprise Musical Theatre – Vocal (singing), Dance, and Acting. All audition materials should be performed within your capabilities and be thoroughly prepared (memorized) and convincingly delivered.
Vocal Audition – Please prepare 16-32 bars of one song from the Musical Theatre canon. Selections should demonstrate your musicianship and technical proficiency as well as your ability to honestly interpret the story your song is telling. Song guidelines are as follows:
- One song; a ballad or uptempo
- Selection should be 16-32 bars in length (appox. 1 minute)
- Songs should be from published Broadway or Off-Broadway musicals (no pop music, self-written songs, or music from unproduced musicals.)
- Students must sing to live music or a track. No a cappella singing please.
- Students must provide sheet music, in the correct key and presented in a binder to the pianist (no loose papers).
Acting Audition – Please prepare one age-appropriate monologue from a contemporary (20th or 21st Century) theatrical piece not to exceed one minute in length. Please no Shakespeare, movie monologues, or monologues from a musical. Your piece can be comedic or dramatic.
Dance Audition – Students will be taught a combination and asked to perform in groups. Please bring appropriate footwear and attire.
STEP #3 – AUDITION
Auditions will be held Saturday, June 23rd from 12:30pm – 2:30pm in Shindell Choral Hall on the Mason Gross Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Please arrive early to check in. Check-In is located out side Shindell in the lobby of Mortensen Hall.
